Exercise for your Brain

Maintaining your Brain Health

As we age, our blood-brain barrier (BBB) becomes “leaky”—a challenge since this vital barrier protects our brain and maintains overall brain health.

But what if we could reinforce it?

Great news: we can! Exercise has been shown to positively affect the BBB. And the future holds even more promise with potential therapies targeting the BBB.

A ground breaking study from Chenghua Gu’s lab at Harvard is laying the foundation for the development of targeted therapeutics.

“This work serves as a foundation, revealing how alterations in cell interactions may control local blood vessel permeability and demonstrating the importance of performing both molecular and morphological characterizations to understand BBB properties.” https://lnkd.in/eRNh5um2.

At BrainKey, we’re advancing the measurement of BBB health using MRI imaging, allowing individuals to monitor changes and assess the impact of interventions.

Exercise and the blood brain barrier --> “... exercise training may be effective in increasing the levels of neurotropic factors and reducing blood–brain barrier permeability in the elderly women” https://lnkd.in/e-Dzyc5S

The future of brain health is bright—and it starts with taking care of your BBB.
